Why is a Nature Discovery Center needed?
The new Nature Discovery Center will replace the aging multi-agency Visitor Center currently located on North Cache Street near Flat Creek. The existing Visitor Center is in need of extensive renovations and remodeling to make it safe and suitable for the growing number of people who visit annually. It was recognized nearly a decade ago that replacing the Visitor Center with a new and longer lasting facility would be more conducive to the needs of the community and hundreds of thousands of tourists who annually visit the Refuge.

How much will the Nature Discovery Center cost?
Design and final plans will cost approximately $2M. The first phase (~7,000 sqft.) of construction will cost approximately $13M. The second phase (~8,000 sqft.) will cost approximately $15M. Design, fabrication, and installation of Interior and exterior exhibits are expected to cost $4.5M

When will it be completed?
Construction is planned to commence spring/summer of 2026 with completion in 2029.

Who will pay for the Nature Discovery Center?
A combination of federal grants, corporate grants, individual local donors, and business donors will provide financial support for the project.
